Jokhang Temple

Constructed in 647 during the Tang Dynasty, the Jokhang Temple was built as a memorial to the Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal and Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty. As the oldest wooden complex of Tibet, the temple covers an area of over 25,100 square meters (6.2 acres).

Drepung Monastery

The word Drepung can be literally translated as "rice pile", a name whose meaning becomes clear when you see the white-walled buildings scattered along the hill. Originally founded in 1416, the monastery in its heyday was home to 10,000 monks (around 1600).

How To Get Into Tibet

Entering Tibet is not as complicated as it sounds at first. Getting into Tibet and traveling around is quite easy and straight forward. There are many options to get into Tibet. Travelers can easily get into Tibet from Kathmandu, Nepal or begin their journey from the Chinese mainland cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kunming or Guangzhou.

Chéngdū (CTU) has become the most used gateway Chinese city to connect Lhasa, Tibet because it has more flights everyday with comparatively cheaper air fares.

Punakha Dzong

Built between two rivers in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel served as capital of Bhutan until 1955 and is still the winter residence of the central monk body. Punakha Dzong houses sacred artifacts and embalmed body of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel.

Potala Palace, Tibet

The Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region was the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. It is now a museum and World Heritage Site.

Bhutan Travel Information

You can travel in Bhutan at any time of the year except during the winter which starts in December and ends in early March. During the summer, you should expect some light rainfall expecially in the south of Bhutan. In the winter time, the temperature can drop down to -6 degrees Celsius while in the summer time the temperatures reach an average of 25 degrees Celsius.
