Spend a few nights exploring the rich cultural aspects of the Tibetan heritage in Lhasa including Potala Palace and the many incredible monasteries. The main highlight of the trip is Mount Kailash (6, 714m/22, 028ft.) situated to the north of the Himalayan Plateau and the amazing landscape of the region. Mount Kailash is said to be the mythical Mount Meru, the spiritual centre of the universe. The four great rivers of Asia, the Indus, Pramaputra, Ganges and Sutlej flow through this holy region.
Further, within the heavily eroded sandstone canyon and valleys of the upper Sutlej River are numerous ruins of ancient cities that once comprised the kingdom of Guge. Temples in that area are still intact and contain exquisite murals and decorative motifs reflect a history of more than 10,000 years. Tholing and Tsaparang are the ruined former capitals of the ancient Guge Kingdom of western Tibet and rarely visited by western travelers.
